Why Life Choices Academy
Life Choices Academy exists to unlock the future of our youth – by empowering them with the skills, knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive in well-paid, meaningful and future-proofed jobs.
Most youth from low-income communities can’t access or afford tertiary education, nor bear the cost of living without earning an income for the duration of their studies.
Life Choices Academy tackles the problem of youth unemployment by upskilling youth with future-focused skills relevant to the growing ICT and green sectors.
The technical training incorporates vital 21st-century skills needed for success in the workplace – including personal development, wellbeing and work-readiness components.
What We Do
Since 2017, Life Choices Academy has been reshaping education for a lasting impact. Our approach blends technical and soft skills development with industry-aligned internships, ensuring graduates thrive in their chosen industries.
Life Choices Academy’s training programmes are founded on five pillars:
1) Future-ready skills for in-demand job roles within growing economic sectors.
2) Wrap-around approach that focuses on the whole person – technical training with soft skills, professional development and mental fitness interventions.
3) Work-integrated learning where youth are exposed to real-world simulations with hands-on experiences so that they can transition to employment with ease.
4) Industry-aligned approach that ensures that our curriculum is current and relevant to industry partners and the job market.
5) Career support that assists youth access long-term employment.
The three 12-month training programmes are:
YouthCode Project: A full-stack development curriculum through which youth master coding foundations, life skills and professional development while crafting a digital portfolio that can kickstart their tech career. (Six months in a bootcamp environment and six months internship/work experience in LC Studio or with external partners)
YouthForce Project: Introduces youth to a career in the booming Saleforce job market. From theory to hands-on projects, youth earn two certifications and are set up for an internship working with Salesforce partners. (Eight months training followed by four months work-integrated learning with LC Studio or with external partners)
SolarYouth Project: Youth with an electrical background are able to pivot into the solar PV industry, specialising in installation and maintenance. They gain real-world experience through our industry-aligned programme run in partnership with Green Solar Academy. (Two months training followed by a 10-month internship with an industry partner)
Throughout the journey, Life Choices’ Impact Pathways team assist youth to get them mentally prepared for the workplace, and ensure that they can market themselves to external partners to secure workplace experience or full-time placements.
