Why Life Choices Academy
Most youth from low-income communities can’t access or afford tertiary education, nor bear the cost of living without earning an income for the duration of their studies.
Life Choices’ Academy tackles the problem of youth unemployment by upskilling youth with future-focused skills in the growing ICT sector.
The technical curriculum also incorporates vital 21st-century skills needed for success in the workplace – including personal development, wellbeing and work-readiness components
What We Do
Life Choices Academy is a one-year programme comprised of a six-month bootcamp with a full-stack web development curriculum, followed by a six-month work experience phase, either in our on-site LC Studio or with external partners.
The initial six-month training is focused on practical skills development. At the end of each module there is a project that requires students to demonstrate their learning. Throughout the programme, students develop a digital portfolio that they can use to promote themselves into the workplace. In addition, students are introduced to a range of personal development and life skills tools, as well as professional development training.
LC Studio provides a simulated work environment where a senior team leads work on client-facing projects. Interns are also able to continue their learning journeys gaining specialist competencies.
Throughout the journey, Life Choices’ placement team assists youth to convert their internship into employment.
